- What does the scholarship cover?
- The scholarship covers the expenses of the trip which are booked directly by our organization and include: flight, accommodations, transportation costs & a university meal package that covers about 70% of their meals.
- What are the eligibility requirements?
- The eligibility of the students are as follows:
- Must be paying for college with a form of financial assistance (student loan, FASFA, etc)
- Between the age of 18-25 years old
- Florida Resident of one of the following counties: Martin, St Lucie, Okeechobee, Palm Beach or Indian River
- GPA 2.5 and above
- This scholarship application is open to college students and trade/certificate program students.
- The eligibility of the students are as follows:
- With the scholarship in place, what is the expense to the student?
- The students are responsible for their personal expenses during the trip. Additionally, they must cover select lunches on excursions and all dinners, which make up about 30% of meals.
- What is the amount of the scholarship?
- We have partial and full scholarships available each year based on need. The full scholarship amount is $6000.
- How is the scholarship money distributed?
- The scholarship money is applied directly to the expenses of the study abroad trip hosted by our organization.
- How long is the study abroad trip?
- The trip is a 4-week (month-long) educational experience.
- What are the volunteer requirements of the students selected?
- Once a student is selected, they are required to participate in at least 3 events within a (1) year timeframe with The Traveling Youth.
- How do you choose the students?
- We have a rigorous multi-step vetting process for each applicant. The first section is an online application with a video that must be submitted, and then we have an in-person interview that we schedule with those who make it to the 2nd round.
- When is your next trip?
- Our next study abroad trip is currently scheduled for Summer 2025 to Czech Republic & Belgium!
- What are your plans for 2025?
- In 2025, we are excited to resume our study abroad program, providing transformative experiences for underserved young adults. Our goal is to expand our outreach, enhance program quality, and foster deeper connections with our partner institutions. Additionally, we plan to explore new opportunities for growth and sustainability to ensure the long-term success of our organization and the impactful experiences we provide.
- When will the applications for the 2026 study abroad be open?

- What are your yearly events?
- We currently host 3 major events per year. Our Family Fun Exploration Day every Spring, our Holiday Soiree every November, and our Holiday Pie Drive at the end of the year for the holidays! These three events have become a staple for us, and we’re always looking at ways to expand our reach by being involved with other events in our community. We are also looking to launch a new signature event in 2025 in September! Stay tuned!
- Do you need volunteers?
- Always!! We love our volunteers – and because we are a 100% volunteer ran organization, volunteers are what keep us alive! We need volunteers year round – so if you would like to get involved – please reach out to our volunteer coordinator Karen Griffin for more information: kgriffincpg@gmail.com
- Are there committees I can join to help?
- Yes! We have many different committee levels you can be a part of. Please contact Lucie McGuire at lucie@getrealsocial.com for more information on how to find the right committee for you!
- Do you have paid staff?
- No, we are a 100% volunteer led organization. Money we raise goes towards our low expenses and the rest goes directly to funding students!
